GEORGE TOWN : Firefly Airlines today confirmed that its flight FY1002 that departed from Penang International Airport at 6.55am for Kota Baru, had turned back and landed safely in Penang at 7.30am.
The flight, which was a codeshare with Malaysia Airlines flight MH9948, was unable to retract its landing gear after being airborne, Firefly said in a statement.
It said that all 64 passengers and four crew on board had disembarked from the aircraft.
“As safety is of utmost priority to Firefly Airlines, the aircraft was required to turn back to Penang. This was a normal landing and, therefore, the airport Fire and Rescue Services was not required to be deployed,” the statement said.
It added that the flight was rescheduled and departed from Penang at 8.50am and arrived safely in Kota Baru at 9.50am.
